HAMREN, Feb 24: In a concerted effort to strengthen the district’s public health system, West Karbi Anglong officially launched the ‘Special Immunisation Drive 1.0’ on Monday. Rolled out in alignment with a statewide initiative, the campaign aims to achieve 100 per cent vaccination coverage by targeting children and pregnant women who have missed routine immunisation.
The inaugural ceremony was held at Amlong Sub-Health Centre under Baithalangso Block Primary Health Centre. The event witnessed the participation of healthcare officials and frontline workers committed to preventing vaccine-preventable diseases in the region.
The drive was spearheaded by Dr Clement Teron, District Immunisation Officer (DIO), who emphasised that the campaign’s success depends on reaching the most vulnerable sections. He stated that ensuring timely vaccination for every child and expectant mother is essential to safeguard them against life-threatening diseases.
The drive focuses on identifying “left-out” beneficiaries who have not received any dose of essential vaccines, “drop-out” beneficiaries who began but did not complete their immunisation schedule and children residing in remote and hard-to-reach areas where geographical barriers hinder healthcare delivery.
The launch programme was attended by Gabin Tokbi, Consultant, Universal Immunisation Programme; Songja Ingti (IFV) and officials from the National Health Mission (NHM).
ASHA and Anganwadi workers will play a crucial role in the implementation of the drive by conducting door-to-door surveys to identify missed beneficiaries. Departmental authorities have issued strict instructions to ensure comprehensive monitoring, with the objective of achieving zero exclusion in the district.
By mobilising local health centres and community health workers, West Karbi Anglong aims to set a benchmark in rural healthcare delivery and ensure a healthier future for the next generation.
