Guwahati, 17 Oct : A special session titled “Zubeen Garg: The Voice of Cultural Renaissance in North East India” was organised at the renowned Kharkiv State Academy of Culture in Ukraine (founded in 1992) to pay tribute to the iconic Assamese singer Zubeen Garg.
Known for redefining Assam’s musical landscape and taking Assamese music to the global stage, Zubeen Garg’s remarkable journey as a singer, lyricist, composer, music director, actor and filmmaker was fondly remembered during the international academic event.

The keynote speaker of the session was Dr Samikhya Madhukalya, former guest faculty at the Department of Cultural Studies, Tezpur University, who is currently associated with several global universities. The hour-long online session saw active participation from professors, students, and vice-chancellors from various institutions.
In her speech, Dr Madhukalya reflected on Zubeen Garg’s artistic brilliance and paid homage to his lasting legacy. Dr Anurag Hazarika, Assistant Professor at Tezpur College and guest faculty at Tezpur University, also joined the session as a co-speaker.
