GUWAHATI, Aug 12: Continuing its efforts to elevate the legacy of Veer Lachit Borphukan on the global stage, the Government of Assam has announced plans to produce a high-quality feature film about the legendary Ahom general. This initiative was revealed alongside the signing of an MoU with Prasar Bharati for a 52-episode documentary on the same subject.
The MoU was formalized at a ceremony held at Lok Sewa Bhawan, where Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to Prasar Bharati for its support. “The documentary will significantly expand the reach of Lachit Borphukan’s story to a broader audience,” Sarma stated.
Sarma emphasised that the documentary will highlight Assam’s rich historical and cultural heritage, paying tribute to Lachit Borphukan’s unparalleled dedication and contribution to the nation’s integrity. He described the day as historic, noting that the documentary would enhance the state’s prominence in Ahom history on a global scale.
In addition to the documentary, the State government has decided to produce a high-quality three-hour feature film on Lachit Borphukan. Sarma urged Prasar Bharati to ensure that the film reflects the unique culture, costume, history, and heritage of Assam while preparing the script, music, and costumes. He assured that the Cultural Affairs Department would offer its expertise to support Prasar Bharati in this endeavor.
Cultural Affairs Minister Bimal Bora, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, Principal Secretary to Cultural Affairs B. Kalyan Chakravarthy, DG Prasar Bharati Kanchan Prasad, and other dignitaries attended the event.
