GUWAHATI, June 28: The Government of Assam celebrated World MSME Day 2025 with a state-level event aimed at promoting entrepreneurship and inclusive growth.
The event was organised by the Assam Small Industries Development Corporation Ltd (ASIDC), under the Department of Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises, in association with FICCI FLO Northeast, Assam Startup, and the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), at the ITA Centre, Machkhowa, Guwahati, on June 27.
According to an official statement, the programme aimed to showcase the achievements of Assam’s MSME sector and to deliberate on strategies for its sustained growth and competitiveness.
The event witnessed participation from senior government officials, financial institutions, industry bodies and over 800 entrepreneurs, most of whom were women.
In her welcome address, Rashmi Manchanda, Chairperson of FICCI FLO Northeast, set the tone for the day.
P Vijay Bhaskar Reddy, IAS, Managing Director of ASIDC, delivered the opening remarks and highlighted the MSME sector’s vital role in employment generation and inclusive industrial growth.
He elaborated on the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP) scheme, a World Bank-supported initiative of the Ministry of MSME that aims to strengthen the MSME ecosystem in Assam by enhancing access to markets, finance, technology, and capacity building through institutional reforms.
Oinam Sarankumar Singh, IAS, Commissioner of Industries and Commerce, presented an overview of the MSME landscape in Assam, pointing to a rise in UDYAM registrations and improved policy support and institutional mechanisms. J B Ekka, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary of the Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises Department, reiterated the government’s commitment to developing the MSME sector through targeted interventions and flagship initiatives.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Department of Industries and Commerce and A TREDS Ltd (Invoice Mart) to facilitate digital credit access for MSMEs through the Trade Receivables Discounting System (TReDS).
The MoU was signed by Oinam Sarankumar Singh and Prakash Sankaran, MD and CEO of A TREDS Ltd The event also featured a session titled “Entrepreneurship as Catalysts,” in which Ishwar Chanabasappa Poojar, Director of IIE, emphasised the importance of entrepreneurship in building local capacity and driving inclusive economic growth.
A panel discussion on “Unlocking Growth for MSMEs in the Northeast” featured representatives from organisations such as A.TREDS Ltd, NEDFi, FINER, MSMEDFO, NSIC, and DICC Kamrup (Metro).
A second panel discussion, “Make in Assam – MSME Success Stories,” was organised by Assam Startup and featured entrepreneurs from Fuloni LLP, Dream Hives, Svastha Samriddhi, AVA Creations and AmbyGold Manorama Foods, who shared their journeys and strategies.
An interactive Q&A session followed, with entrepreneurs engaging directly with panellists.
To enhance awareness, RAMP scheme brochures and MSME scheme booklets were distributed among the participants.
An audio-visual presentation highlighted the objectives and achievements of the RAMP scheme and related interventions.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Pronita Barua, Senior Vice Chairperson of FICCI FLO Northeast.
As stated in the official release, the Government of Assam reaffirmed its resolve to build a robust, inclusive, and resilient MSME ecosystem aligned with the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
