GUWAHATI, Oct 18: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday reviewed preparations for the statewide observance of the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika, which will be held on November 5 in a special manner as part of his birth centenary celebrations.
Chairing a video conference from Dispur with Guardian Ministers, the Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioners, and senior officials, the Chief Minister said the State Government is observing Dr Hazarika’s birth centenary with yearlong programmes across Assam.

He said the death anniversary of the Bard of the Brahmaputra would be synchronised with these celebrations and marked through coordinated events in every district.
The Department of Cultural Affairs presented a detailed plan for commemorating the occasion at the district level.
Dr Sarma announced that special programmes will be organised in all districts on November 5, featuring performances by leading local artistes and renditions of Dr Hazarika’s songs, including the iconic “Manuhe Manuhor Babe.”
Eminent personalities from the fields of music and culture will also be invited to the events.
To encourage public participation, the Chief Minister directed that the programmes be held at prominent venues in each district.
He suggested that larger districts may organise additional events in their sub-divisions, if required. Dr Sarma instructed the Deputy Commissioners to coordinate closely with their respective Guardian Ministers to ensure smooth and successful observance of the programme.
Finance minister Ajanta Neog, cooperation minister Jogen Mohan, public health engineering minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, power minister Prasanta Phukan, labour welfare minister Rupesh Gowala, several guardian ministers, chief secretary Ravi Kota, and additional chief secretaries Ajay Tewari, B Kalyan Chakravarthy, and KK Dwivedi, among other senior officials, attended the meeting both physically and virtually.
