Storm Causes Havoc In Jorhat

JORHAT, May 1: One woman under Titabar civil sub-division was killed and altogether 83 houses damaged in a storm that lashed several parts of the district on Friday night.
Additional deputy commissioner Damodar Barman who is the CEO District Disaster Management Authority official stated that Anamika Bhuyan (23) of Dufflating, Titabar died after a branch of a tree fell on her while she was returning home from the local market.
Barman said that 79 kutcha houses were partially damaged while four were completely damaged by the storm. He said that the impact of the storm was severe in areas under Titabar Revenue Circle with 60 kutcha houses partially damaged.
The additional deputy commissioner said that altogether 297 people were affected by the storm.

Sub-Post office burnt
Meanwhile, the sub-post office at Nimatighat on the Brahmaputra river bank on the outskirts here, was completely gutted in a fire late Friday night.
A house adjoining the sub-post office was also fully damaged by the fire, a DDMA official stated. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be known.
