DALGAON, Dec 13: A Royal Bengal Tiger that strayed out of Orang National Park has triggered panic in the Dalgaon area of Darrang district after killing three goats in a nearby village on Friday.
According to local sources, the tiger was first sighted roaming freely inside the Kaupati Tea Estate on Friday. On Saturday, it moved towards the adjoining Ghiladhari area, where it attacked goats that were grazing in an open field.

Eyewitnesses said the tiger killed three goats during the attack, leaving one carcass in the field while dragging the other two towards the tea estate. Several villagers working in nearby areas reportedly witnessed the incident, adding to the fear and tension in the locality.
Following the incident, an atmosphere of terror has prevailed in the region. Many villagers have temporarily left their homes, while others have shifted their goats and livestock to safer locations to avoid further losses.
Despite repeated reports, forest officials from Orang National Park were yet to reach the spot till the filing of this report. Local residents have expressed concern over the delay in response and have demanded immediate intervention to track the tiger and guide it safely back into the national park.
Orang National Park, often referred to as the “mini Kaziranga,” is home to a growing population of Royal Bengal Tigers and other wildlife. In recent times, incidents of human-wildlife conflict, especially tiger straying into fringe areas have become more frequent due to habitat overlap and seasonal movements.
Villagers have appealed to the forest department to take urgent measures to prevent any harm to human life and to ensure the safety of both residents and wildlife.
