General secretary Manoj Kumar Gogoi highlighted that Subhkaran Sharma, though from the Marwari community, secured distinction in Assamese during his university studies and was widely regarded as a scholar of great erudition. Sharma, who passed away last year, translated six Sanskrit and Hindi classics into Assamese, including the esteemed edition of the Srimadbhagawad Gita compiled by Swami Ramsukhdas and published by Gita Press, Gorakhpur.

Speaking on the complexities of translation, Dr Mayashree Goswami, former professor at Sibsagar College, remarked that literary translation demands deep expertise in both the source and target languages.
