Sur-Ratna Jajna Bezbaruah Memorial Award presented to artistes in Nagaon

NAGAON, Oct 22: The 85th birth anniversary of noted Assamese A-grade music composer of All India Radio and Doordarshan, Sur-Ratna Late Jajna Bezbaruah, was celebrated as ‘Sur-Din’ (Music Day) at his residence on Tuesday.

The Jajna Bezbaruah Sura-Ropita Geet Sanrakshan Samiti, Assam, along with his family members, organised the event at his Chachamukh residence in Nagaon.

To commemorate his birth anniversary, the Sur-Ratna Jajna Bezbaruah Memorial Award was conferred upon noted tabla maestro Tankeswar Baidya and violinist Tarini Mohan Sarma.

The event began with the lighting of lamps in front of the portrait of artist Jajna Bezbaruah by his wife, Minati Bezbaruah.

Former MLA Dr Durlov Chamua inaugurated the event, while the incumbent local MLA Rupak Sarma attended the program as the chief guest. The program featured mesmerising performances by various artistes, including Chandana Bezbaruah (Bhajan), Harshita Borah (Song), Ayusi Bhattacharjee, Dhritiman Kashyap, Liza, Anshuraj Kashyap, Krishti Kanon Kalita, Mridula Gohain, and Mondeep Mahanta.

Prominent personalities from various fields, including Golap Barua, Kamalesh Saikia, Birinchi Bora, Prabhat Sarma, Tarun Ligira, Ariful Haque, Deepak Sarma, Anil Sarma, Ranjan Bezbaruah, Baijayanti Khound, Kanak Hazarika, Hareswar Borah, Santosh Kalita, and Hariprasad Chourasia, attended the event.

Pradip Bora, secretary of Gandhar, a pioneer cultural organisation of the small town, paid tribute to the recently deceased musician, Digen Mahanta.

Minati Bezbaruah, Chandan Bezbaruah, Chandana Borthakur, Ranjan Bezbaruah, and Pranjal Baruah managed the event on behalf of the Bezbaruah family.

This celebration honoured Jajna Bezbaruah’s contributions to Assamese music and culture.
