JORHAT, Jan 13: Jorhat deputy commissioner Ashok Kumar Barman along with the rest of the state launched the ‘Swanirbhar Naari’ scheme in Jorhat district on Friday.
DC Ashok Kumar Barman while inaugurating the scheme urged the weavers to avail the benefits of the scheme in a ceremony held at the office of the assistant director, Handloom and Textiles department, Jorhat.
Altogether three outlets – Jorhat, Teok, Titatabar have been opened in the district for selling hand woven garments like various types of gamosas and other products.
Assistant director of Handloom and Textile department, Bhabesh Tamuly along with the representatives of Dergaon MLA were also present during the programme.
A similar function to launch the scheme was held at Handloom Training Centre, Madhavpur, Titabar in which Titabar and Mariani MLAs – Bhaskar Jyoti Baruah and Rupjyoti Kurmi, respectively along with officials of Titabar Civil Sub-division attended the programme.
Notably, the scheme will empower indigenous weavers and the state government will procure handloom items directly from indigenous weavers via a web portal under the scheme.
