Swasthya Manthan- 2 Begins

GUWAHATI, Aug 2: The National Health Mission (NHM), Assam’s two-day event – ‘Swasthya Manthan -2’ was formally kicked off on Tuesday at the Assam Administrative Staff College, located in the city’s Khanapara area. The event is being organised with the support of the World Health Organisation’s India office and WISH Foundation. The event was formally inaugurated by Assam government’s Health minister Keshab Mahanta.

The 2-day review workshop was held with participants from all districts of the state led by the joint director of Health Services, District Programme manager, Block Programme manager and others. Review was based on the health performance of each district, on how to improve the health conditions of children as well as mothers. It is expected to determine any further course correction that may be required by the districts and any handholding required to improve the health indicators.

During the event, the best performers of each district were awarded for their hard work and dedication towards improving the health system of their respective districts. Many senior medical officers, medical officers, community health officers, nurses and ASHAs were felicitated by Health minister Mahanta. The minister also launched the 5th edition of Swasthya Dapoon, a quarterly health magazine published by the NHM, Assam along with the state launch of World Breastfeeding Week.

The event was followed by the launching of a portal on maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response (MPCDSR).

Avinash Joshi, principal secretary – Health, Indrani Laskar, joint secretary – Health, Dr. Nilmadhab Das, director of Health Services, Dr. Manoj Kr. Choudhary, Executive Director, NHM, Pankaj Chamuah, OSD NHM, Dr. Ram Chahar, National  Programme officer (Maternal and Reproductive Health), Dr. Deepti Agrawal, National Programme officer (Infant and Child Health), both from WHO Country Office India, Dr. Rajesh Khanna, senior director- Programs, Anupa Vig, deputy director- Technical, both from LEHS|WISH Foundation  India and officers from State NHM attended the event on Tuesday.

The Swasthya Manthan – 1 was held on June 8, last under the initiative of Dr. M S Lakshmi Priya, IAS, Mission Director – National Health Mission Assam.
