Chao Durga Konwar vice president of Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad Asom (TAYPA) central committee said that there are 50 Lakhs Tai Ahom people living in the state, but unfortunately the community has been deprived of the scheduled tribe status, which was the main demand of six ethnic communities such as

The Adivasi, Moran, Muttock, Chutiya and Koch Rajbonshi people residing in the state.

More than 500 people from the Tai Ahom community participated the dharna and shouted various slogans against the BJP led governments both at the centre and the state.

Chao Durga Konwar has accused the governments of not paying heed to the demand for ST status of six communities for the past several years.
