SIVASAGAR, June 30: Activists of the Bijay Rajkonwar-led Tai Ahom Yuba Parishad Asom (TAYPA) on Monday warned that 60 lakh members of the Ahom community would vote against the BJP in the 2026 Assembly elections if the government fails to fulfil its commitment to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the community.

Raising slogans, the TAYPA members took out a procession from the Boarding Field to the office of the Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner, where they submitted a memorandum pressing for their longstanding demand.

Addressing the gathering, the activists said that the Ahom community had already given the BJP a lesson in the Jorhat Parliamentary elections and would do the same in the upcoming Assembly polls if their demand continues to be ignored.
