Tezpur remembers internationally acclaimed photo artist Nalini Baruah on 95th birthday

TEZPUR, April 23 : Amidst enthusiastic participation of the dignitaries of various organisations and host of peoples from different walks of life Tezpur Sahitya Sabha celebrated 95th Birth day of internationally reputed photo artist Nalini Kanta Baruah on Tuesday at Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhawan with hours long programme.

It is worth mentioning that Bishnu Rabha award winning noted photo artist Nalini Kanta Barua, was a creator of most prominent and acclaimed creations in and around the globe like Cat Trio, Mising Bihu Dance, Reserved Seat and Unwanted Baby.

Baruah has already successfully organised as many as forty-nine one man  exhibition at different venues around the globe including the first exhibition in Tezpur in 1968 at Hem Baruah Hall, in Guwahati in 1971 and again in Tezpur in 1977, in 1976 at Barpeta session of Asam Sahitya Sabha, in 1980 at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai.

Exhibitions of his creations were held earlier in Kolkata , New Delhi , New Jersey, USA (1993) and London (2001). During the past years he was honoured by Gauhati University in 1975 and by Darrang College in 1976 and 1979. He won the prestigious Club Award in an international colour slide exhibition held in Italy in 1981.

 For his lifelong contribution to the Art of Photography the Assam Agricultural University honoured him in 1982.  In 1955 he was awarded by the Indian International Photographic Council and in 1996 North Eastern Photographic Association honoured him by nominating as a member of Jury.

Attending the programme presided over by president of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Dhrubajyoti Das, MLA of Tezpur Prithiraj Rabha showering best wishes upon the noted artist on his 95th birth anniversary said that Nalini Kanta Baruah is the symbol of pride for every resident of Tezpur and the uniqueness of his creativity will inspire all throughout the ages to come. President of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Dhrubajyoti Das highlighted the contributions and stages of struggle overcome  by Nalini Kanta Barua in making the internationally acclaimed Photo artist Nalini Kanta Barua. His success and endeavour in transforming his passion to profession will always remain as ideal for all. Journalist Pulak Kumar Deka in his deliberation on the occasion said that Nalini Kanta Barua’s every photograph itself is a poem, a story or a novel.

Photographs of Nalini Kanta Barua always exposed his distinctive qualities of a sincere, dedicated and true artist, he added. For the occasion artist Nalini Kanta Baruah also said a few words and said that he would continue his artistic journey since   the best photograph of his life is yet to be captured. He further said that vision is a must for creation. He urged the new generation to be involved with hard work and perseverance in their work to succeed.

At the very outset of the programme conducted by former secretary of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Pankaj Baruah, Vice President of the Sabha  Dwijen Nath welcomed the guests with his brief speech and Swagat Nayan Saikia presented a Borgeet.

Dhrubajyoti Das and Dwijen Nath of Tezpur Sahitya Sabha ,Barlin Kumar Saikia, secretary of Tezpur Photography Club, Pulak Kumar Deka , Pranab Das and Samir Kar of  Sonitpur Journalists’ Union, Tarun Das of Sonitpur Press Club, Mrigen Chandra Bora of Asam Natya Sanmilan, Jitumani Dev Choudhury of Baan Theatre, Bhupen Barua of Sonitpur Silpi Samaj, Apurba Bora of AAJU, Sonitpur district committee, Dul Goswami of Maati Akhora, Sahitya Academy award winning author Gyan Bahadur Chettry , several other individuals and organisations offered their hearty wishes to Nalini Kanta Barua with books, garland of flowers and amazing gifts representing their organisations. During the programme Tezpur MLA Prithiviraj Rabha inaugurated a song titled ‘Pani Piya-2025’ performed by Prasiddha Sivam.
