Nalini Kanta Baruah & Sowkat Ali are really the pride of our state: Prithiraj Rabha, MLA, Tezpur

TEZPUR, Aug 21: A two days photo exhibition of internationally acclaimed photographer Nalini Kanta Baruah was held as part of World Photography Day celebration. The exhibition was organised by Tezpur Photography Club which concluded along with the valedictory function held on Saturday. The exhibition was inaugurated here on Friday at Baliram Lahkar Auditorium of Asomiya Club Tezpur. The photo exhibition and exhibition of various cameras that have changed along with the changing time was inaugurated by renowned artist and sportsman Sowkat Ali.
Prithiraj Rabha, MLA, Tezpur attended as guest in the programme and recalled the memories and close attachment of Nalini Kanta Baruah and Sowkat Ali with his father Kalaguru Bishnuprasad Rava. In his speech he said, “Nalini Kanta Baruah and Sowkat Ali, both the artists who are still continuing their journey of creations, are really the pride of our state.”
Deba Kumar Mishra, deputy commissioner, Sonitpur attended the programme as guest of honour. The programme was presided over by Utpal Panchanan, president, Tezpur Photography Club. Addressing the gathering, Deba Kumar Mishra said that inaugurating an exhibition of a 92 years aged artist by a 99 years aged artist is a very significant incident and both the artists are really a source of inspiration to us all. DC Mishra felicitated artist Nalini Kanta Baruah with a citation which was offered by Tezpur Photography Club.
Inaugurating the exhibition, artist Sowkat Ali said that he felt very happy to get the chance to associate with the programme on such an auspicious day. For the occasion artist Nalini Kanta Baruah said that he would continue his artistic journey since the best photograph of his life is yet to be captured.
Barlin Kumar Saikia, general secretary, Tezpur Photography Club who hosted the entire programme offered the vote of thanks to peoples from all walks of life for their participation and cooperation in the event.
Meanwhile, a photo exhibition of sixty selected photographs of Samir Kar, a senior photo journalist of the city entitled ‘Tiranga’ was also held in the office premises of Sonitpur Journalists Union on Friday wherein Prithiraj Rabha, MLA, Tezpur, Deba Kumar Mishra, deputy commissioner, Sonitpur, Bankim Sarma, president, Baan Theatre, Tezpur, Dr Bhupen Saikia, president, Tezpur Sahitya Sabha, Barasha Talukdar, assistant commissioner, Neena Barua, district information and public relation officer, Ritubaran Sarma, vice chairman, Amtron, social activist Dadul Borkakati and the members of Journalists Union attended along with other dignitaries.
