TMCH observes World Blood Donors Day

TEZPUR, June 15: Tezpur Medical College and Hospital’s Blood Bank authorities observed World Blood Donors Day through a series of programs aimed at promoting the noble cause of blood donation. A walkathon and awareness rally were organised, involving nearly 100 doctors, students, and staff of TMCH. The rally, themed – ‘Give Blood, Give Plasma, Share Life, Share Often’, commenced from TMCH, passed through Tumukigaon, and returned to TMCH, raising awareness about the significance of blood donation. At Tumikgaon Naamghar, assistant professor Dr Abhinanda Barua addressed the locals, highlighting the importance of blood donation and the gap between the demand and supply of blood and blood products in the region.

Simultaneously, two blood donation camps were organised at TMCH, with participation from the 30th Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the National Medicos Association. A total of 27 individuals donated blood during the camps. As part of the day-long program, a felicitation ceremony was held to acknowledge organisations and individuals for their contributions to the field of blood donation. The Indian Red Cross Society was honoured for organising the highest number of camps in FY 2022-23, while 155 Base Hospital received recognition for having the highest number of donors in a single day during the same period. Sashastra Seema Bal was felicitated for organising the most disciplined and well-organised camp, and Assam Valley School was acknowledged for conducting a camp with the highest number of female donors in FY 2022-23.

Additionally, assistant professor Dr Bibhupriya Das from TMCH’s Surgery department was honoured as the highest male blood donor at TMCH’s Blood Bank, while chief medical officer Dr Dimple Barua from Assam Valley School received recognition as the highest female blood donor. The program commenced with a welcome address by associate professor and in-charge of TMCH’s Blood Bank, Dr Ranjana Deka. Principal Dr Karuna Kanta Hazarika, superintendent Dr Rupam Borgohain, Colonel Vinod Mehta from Station Headquarters Tezpur, Subedar Probul Kumar Gogoi from Station Cell, Debajit Saikia, Blood Bank coordinator of Sonitpur district branch of the Indian Red Cross Society, Dr Vikramaditya Chakma from Composite Hospital, SSB Salonibari, Praveen Kumar from Recruitment Training Center, SSB Salonibari, chief medical officer Dr Dimple Baruah from Assam Valley School, Balipara, Tezpur, deputy superintendent Dr Phanidhar Sharma, and Dr Jahanara Begum, among others, were present at the event.
