HRAEI hosts Food Safety Training Program in Guwahati

GUWAHATI, April 29: The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Eastern India (HRAEI) successfully conducted a Food Safety Training and Certification Program on Advanced Catering in Guwahati on Tuesday.

The event, held at Vivanta Guwahati, brought together hospitality professionals from across the region to enhance awareness of food safety and hygiene standards.

According to an official statement issued by the HRAEI, the program was held under the leadership of its President, Sudesh Poddar, and Senior Vice President, Aneel Goenka.

The session commenced at 10:00 a.m. and focused on strengthening food safety compliance within the hospitality industry at a time when public health concerns remain high.

The event featured the presence of several dignitaries. Ratna Singh, Ward Councillor of Ward 31, Guwahati Municipal Corporation, served as the Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker.

In her address, she reaffirmed the municipal body’s commitment to public health and its support for the region’s growing hospitality sector.

Mukuta Deka, Vice Chairman of the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority, inaugurated the session as Chief Guest.

He commended HRAEI’s initiative to raise awareness on food safety and hygiene, noting the potential benefits to Guwahati’s residents and the state at large.

Also in attendance was D Bahum Mukim, Deputy Commissioner of Food Safety, Government of Meghalaya, whose participation reflected a spirit of inter-state collaboration on food safety enforcement.

The training session was led by Dr Anup Kumar Tewari, a National Diamond Master Trainer with FoSTaC-FSSAI, who has conducted over 200 such programs across India.

Tewari delivered detailed instruction on critical topics, including hygiene management, food handling protocols, contamination prevention, and legal compliance, aligning with both national and international standards.

Senior vice president Aneel Goenka expressed gratitude to all dignitaries and participants, calling the program a significant step towards improving food safety benchmarks in the region.

“This marks a vital step toward making Guwahati a model destination in hospitality and food safety,” he stated.

President Sudesh Poddar also shared his satisfaction with the program’s success.

“At HRAEI, we believe training and certification are essential for building a stronger, safer hospitality sector,” he said, “This initiative reflects our commitment to equipping professionals with the skills needed to meet evolving safety standards.”

The event concluded with expert-led sessions focusing on the latest developments and practical applications in food safety, aimed at helping participants uphold best practices in their respective establishments.
