BOKAJAN, June 17: The Karbi Anglong Ginger & Green Vegetables Traders Association (KAGGVTA) has resolved to intensify monitoring of trading activities in the district amid concerns over the operation of unlicensed traders and the resulting loss of revenue to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
The decision was taken during a meeting held at the association’s office in the Bokajan Super Market complex on Wednesday.
The meeting was attended by local traders, wholesalers and members of the association.
Participants expressed concern that several traders from outside the district were allegedly conducting business without obtaining valid trade licences.
The meeting noted that agricultural and forest-based products, including ginger, chillies, broomsticks, bamboo shoots and other seasonal vegetables, were being transported out of the district without compliance with prescribed regulations and tax requirements.
The association observed that such activities were adversely affecting local businesses and leading to revenue losses for the KAAC.
To address the issue, KAGGVTA resolved to verify the credentials of traders operating in the district and ensure that business activities are carried out in accordance with existing rules and regulations.
The association stated that it would work towards promoting legal and transparent trade practices while supporting revenue generation for the autonomous council.
Association president Mohen Tokbi and secretary Longsar Bongrum, along with prominent wholesalers and traders, participated in detailed discussions on measures to regulate the trade sector and ensure smooth business operations.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on undertaking coordinated efforts to strengthen compliance with licensing requirements and safeguard the interests of local traders and producers.
