GUWAHATI, Jan 19: In anticipation of the scheduled visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Guwahati on Friday, the city is gearing up for a series of traffic restrictions to ensure the smooth conduct of the event.
The primary focus of these restrictions is to facilitate the inauguration of the first phase of the Brahmaputra Riverfront Development by the Union Home Minister.
As per instructions, all commercial goods carrying vehicles, including LMV/MMV/HMV, will be restricted on GS road, Punjabari Road, B Barooah Road, GNB Road, MG Road, and AT Road from 12 noon to 7 pm.
“ASTC buses, Inter-district buses, and city buses operating on GS Road, Punjabari Road, B Barooah Road, GNB Road, MG Road, and AT Road will be regulated from 12 noon to 7 pm,” the instructions read.
It further said that slow-moving vehicles such as E Rickshaws, thela, and Rickshaws will be restricted on GS Road, Punjabari Road, B Barooah Road, GNB Road, MG Road, and AT Road from 12 noon to 7 pm.
“All commercial goods carrying vehicles (LMV/MMV/HMV) will be restricted on NH27 from 12 noon to 7 pm and on NH17 from 4 pm to 8 pm on that day,” it added.
However, these restrictions will not apply to school buses, ambulances, fire brigade, and other emergency vehicles.
Shah is set to inaugurate the first phase of the Brahmaputra Riverfront Development on January 20. In preparation for the event, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma personally inspected the venue on January 18, emphasising the need for flawless execution and instructing officials to ensure the smooth passage of the program.
In a prelude to the inauguration, Shah marked another milestone by inaugurating a groundbreaking Cyber Security Operations Centre at the Assam Rifles headquarters on January 18. This center, a first among central armed police forces, is designed to significantly enhance the cyber security posture of the force.
The Cyber Security Operations Centre will play a crucial role in real-time monitoring of the Assam Rifles Wide Area Network (ARWAN), ensuring the mitigation of external threats and preventing cyber violations.
Equipped with state-of-the-art data monitoring devices, the facility will operate 24/7 to safeguard against cyber threats.
