JORHAT, March 1: A three-day solo exhibition of paintings and drawings by noted poet and artist Trailokya Bordoloi began on Sunday at Vision Art Asom, located on Jail Road in Jorhat. The exhibition commenced in the morning, followed by the inaugural ceremony in the afternoon.
On the occasion, Bordoloi’s collection of lyrical poems titled Bon Birinar Bahi was formally released. The book was unveiled by Dr Gautom Kumar Saikia, Principal of Kamargaon College.
Speaking at the release ceremony, Dr Saikia remarked that poetry and painting are both complex forms of art and Trailokya Bordoloi has successfully mastered the rare ability to blend the two. He stated that each poem inherently carries a visual image and Bordoloi has the remarkable talent to bring those poetic images to life through his brush and colours.
The exhibition was inaugurated by renowned artist and president of the Jorhat Fine Art Society, Bhrigupati Hazarika, who attended as the Chief Guest. In his address, Hazarika mentioned that he had previously worked alongside Bordoloi and praised his deep understanding of both poetry and painting. He noted that Bordoloi possesses special expertise in both fields and consistently strives to depict authentic rural life through his art and poetry.
Hazarika further observed that lyrical poetry is relatively rare in literature and Bordoloi’s book beautifully captures the essence of nature. The collection, he said, contains resonant expressions capable of stirring readers’ emotions and creating a deep impact through the rhythm and sound of words. He also described Bordoloi as a skilled painter who vividly portrays human emotions—joy and sorrow as well as the beauty of natural landscapes.
Expressing his happiness at inaugurating the exhibition organised through Bordoloi’s individual effort, Hazarika remarked that today’s classrooms often lack the environment and joy required to truly appreciate a painting.
Sharing his personal reflections, poet-artist and NEEPCO engineer Trailokya Bordoloi quoted the famous poet Hiren Bhattacharyya, saying, “Sorrow is the child in my lap.” He added, “In the same way, colours and images are like children in my lap.” He recalled that during an exhibition in Delhi, an artist had encouraged him to focus on Assam’s abundant natural beauty. Since then, he has been travelling across villages, creating paintings inspired by nature. He mentioned his special fondness for watercolours and said that he mostly paints at night. He invited everyone to visit and experience the exhibition. Among others present at the event were Parikshit Baruah of Vision Art Asom, Dr Mantumoni Dutta of NN Saikia College, artist Dr Ranjit Kumar Baruah, Dilip Tamuli, Bijoy Borthakur and Ripunjay Gogoi, along with several other distinguished personalities.
