SIVASAGAR, Dec 16: Tributes continued to pour in on Tuesday from individuals and organisations across Sivasagar and beyond following the death of eminent journalist and editor PG Baruah on Sunday.
Raijor Dal president and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi, while mourning his demise, said that PG Baruah’s name was revered in the intellectual and social spheres of the region. He stated that The Assam Tribune, which Baruah edited, served as a mirror of social life in the Northeast and played a vital role in shaping public discourse.
Principal of Dikhowmukh College, Ranjit Baruah, said PG Baruah was widely known for his commitment to principled journalism. He added that his contributions to literature, journalism and social life left a profound impact on Assamese society.
Retired professor Sonaram Baruah said it would be extremely difficult to fill the void created by PG Baruah’s passing in the journalistic world of the Northeast.
All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) general secretary Samiran Phukan, in a condolence message issued on Tuesday, said that with the demise of Prafulla Gobinda Baruah, the nation had lost a great guardian whose works would continue to inspire future generations.
The Assam State Journalists Union, in a release signed by its president Jitu Sharma Rajkhowa and secretary Pradip Deka, also mourned the death of Padmashree PG Baruah. The union described him as a prominent editor of the country and a passionate advocate of Assamese culture and humanitarian values and extended its sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
