TU hosts National Space Day celebrations in collaboration with NESAC

TEZPUR, Aug 5: The Department of Physics, Tezpur University, in collaboration with the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC), celebrated National Space Day on campus on Tuesday as part of a nationwide series of programmes marking the second National Space Day.

The Government of India declared August 23 as National Space Day following the successful soft-landing of the Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander on the Moon’s South Polar Region on August 23, 2023.

The Department of Space is observing the occasion across the country with a range of outreach activities during July and August 2024.

Dr Koteshwar Rao C, Scientist at the U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru, was present as the guest of honour.

He delivered a lecture on Indian Moon Missions, highlighting India’s progress in lunar exploration.

Dr Arup Borgohain, Scientist-SF at NESAC, spoke on Societal Applications of Space Technology, discussing how space-based technologies contribute to development and governance.

Prof R R Hoque, Dean of Academic Affairs, underlined the role of science education and technological innovation in achieving India’s developmental goals.

Prof G A Ahmed, Coordinator of the National Space Day Celebration Committee, outlined the university’s initiatives to enhance space awareness among students.

The day-long programme included popular science lectures, a quiz competition on space technology, a space exhibition, and an audio-visual show, aimed at fostering student engagement and interest in space science.

Around 200 students from various schools and colleges across the region participated in the event.

Tezpur University Vice Chancellor Prof Shambhu Nath Singh congratulated the organisers for their role in promoting space science in the region.
