DIPHU, Nov 4: Karbi Anglong police on Friday rescued two minors from child traffickers and nabbed two in this connection. The rescue of the minors and arrest of the traffickers were facilitated by the Village Defence Parties (VDP) of Rongnihang, Panbari and Harilal Basti and a local reporter Saidul Islam.
On Thursday evening the VDPs were informed of a woman taking shelter in a house in Rongnihang Pathar under Diphu police station. The VDPs of Rongnihang, Panbari and Harilal Basti informed each other and coordinated their investigation. The VDPs created a search party and looked for the children and the woman the entire night of Thursday but to no avail.
However, on the morning of Friday a local reporter Saidul Islam and the VDP president of Harilal Basti, Abdul Motim Latukdar decided to conduct an inspection of the bus station.
At the bus station, a woman with two children was found waiting for a bus to go to Dimapur.
They detained the woman along with the children and brought them to Town Outpost, Diphu. Initially, the woman claimed that the children were hers but on further interrogation, it was revealed that they were not.
DSP (Hq), Diphu, Nahid Karisma said that the case is under Batadrava police station.
The DSP in a statement said, “The case is related to kidnapping under Batadrava police station. The woman is from Bherbheri and the children are her neighbours. The woman Khatija Khatun along with a man has been arrested. The IO of the case will come and Diphu police will complete the formalities of handing them over.”
DSP Karisma also said it may be a case of child trafficking as the woman was trying to take the children across the interstate border to Dimapur, Nagaland.
