GUWAHATI, March 22: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Wednesday arrested two lat mandals from two different places of the state on corruption charges.
According to a release issued by the directorate, Md Azahar Ali Ahmed, lat mandal of Baghbor circle office, Barpeta was arrested by sleuths of the directorate of vigilance and anti-corruption for demanding and accepting bribe for demarcation of the complainant’s land.
The official was arrested while negotiating payment of a bribe from the complainant. As per the FIR, the lat mandal was arrested with Rs 20,000.
“In this connection, a case has been registered in ACB Police Station on 22/03/2023 vide ACB P.S. Case No. 18/2023 U/S 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) in this connection, and necessary legal follow up actions are underway,” the release added.
In another such incident, a lat mandal of the office of the circle officer, Biswanath Revenue Circle was also arrested while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 for completing the process of mutation of the complainant’s land.
Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the Directorate for taking necessary legal action against the above-mentioned public servant.
A case has been registered in ACB Police Station on 22/03/2023 vide ACB P.S. Case No. 16/2023 U/S 7(a)of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended in 2018) in this connection, the directorate release stated.
