Kashyap was arrested hours after the victim, Samiul Haque, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday evening.

Police had sought five-day custody, but the court granted only two days. The actress’s bail plea was rejected.

The fatal accident occurred in the early hours of July 26 in Guwahati’s Dakshingaon area.

Haque, who was returning home from his part-time job at a streetlight installation site, was allegedly struck by a Bolero SUV.

Kashyap initially appeared before police on July 26 and was questioned before being released on a personal recognizance (PR) bond.

She was summoned again the next day but let go.

Her arrest followed Haque’s death, with police adding Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) to the existing charges.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Jayanta Sarathi Borah stated that traffic police were unaware of the incident until later.

“The accused voluntarily reported to police the next morning and was released on a PR bond. An FIR was later filed by the victim’s family,” he said.

Forensic examination of the suspected vehicle and analysis of CCTV footage are underway.

Kashyap underwent a medical examination after her arrest, though none was conducted initially as she had appeared voluntarily.

Haque’s family has accused Kashyap of fleeing the scene without assisting the victim and failing to visit him in the hospital.
