BOKAJAN, Dec 20: Karbi Anglong Police on Tuesday night recovered morphine weighing 2 kg here at Lahorijan.
The opium was found inside a bag of a passenger inside a bus, MN 01 HT 0188, which was coming from Manipur and was destined for Guwahati.
Police also apprehended two people in this connection with the matter, identified as Md Ayush Khan and Md Suruj Khan.
As per the police, the recovered contraband is valued at Rs 1 crore in the market.
The Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also appreciated the Karbi Anglong police over their achievement.
“In a late night operation, @karbianglongpol intercepted a bus at Lahorijan and after thorough search 2 packets of morphine weighing 1.910 kg was recovered. Two people, from a neighbouring state, were apprehended in this incident. Well done @assampolice,” the CM wrote on micro-blogging site X.
It is worth mentioning that in the month of November, Karbi Anglong police had recovered 1.652 kg of heroin worth around Rs 15 crore from a van under Dillai police station.
The police while carrying out checking in the evening, recovered 130 plastic cases containing heroin from the door panels of a Tata Winger van bearing registration number AS 01KC 9014, coming from Manipur.
In this connection Mohammad Elias Khan (29) and Mohammad Sirajuddin, both from Manipur were detained. In a similar incident in Lahorijan, the police recovered heroin worth around Rs 90 lakh from a car.
The police was carrying out checking at Lahorijan Patrol Post, under Dillai police station when they intercepted a Swift Dzire car, AS01FN5844, 28 identical plastic cases containing heroin was recovered.
In this connection Habibur Rehman, resident of Mangaldai and Jeherul Ali, resident of Hajo were arrested. The contraband weighed 334 grams.
