DIBRUGARH, July 9: A major road accident on H.S. Road in Dibrugarh late on Saturday night left two individuals with serious injuries. The incident occurred when a Chevrolet Sail car (AS06R 8134) collided with several parked vehicles in the area, according to the police.
The car, traveling from the Khemka Market direction, struck the parked vehicles near ICICI Bank on H.S. Road. Simultaneously, it also collided with an oncoming scooty from the opposite direction.
The injured parties have been identified as Prashanta Konwar, the rider of the scooty, and Homenjyoti Buragohain, the driver of the Chevrolet Sail car. Konwar was swiftly taken to AMCH (Assam Medical College and Hospital) for immediate medical attention, while Buragohain received treatment at Brahmaputra Diagnostic.
Authorities suspect that Buragohain, a resident of the Demow area, was under the influence of alcohol while driving. Eyewitnesses state that he had visited Dibrugarh for personal reasons and had been seen leaving a bar cum restaurant situated on H.S. Road prior to the accident.
Reports indicate that there were four individuals inside the car at the time of the accident. The collision resulted in significant damage to four parked vehicles, including a Baleno (AS06AH 5301), two Seltos cars (AS01FD 0371 and AS06AD 8199), and a Maruti 800 (AS06C 5756), along with an Activa scooty (AS06AJ 0548).
A police official stressed that alcohol consumption has been a major contributing factor in recent accidents in Dibrugarh, with many drivers found to be under the influence.
“Alcohol is the major cause of accidents. It has been found that in most of the recent accidents which occurred in Dibrugarh recently, most of the car drivers were consuming alcohol,” the police official said.
In light of the incident, the family members of Prashanta Konwar are planning to file a complaint against the accused driver.
The police have launched a thorough investigation into the accident to gather all relevant information and initiate appropriate legal actions.
