HOWRAGHAT, March 15: Tension gripped Sabai Kro village in Rongkut under the jurisdiction of the North Borbil Police Outpost after the body of an unidentified man was recovered from a shallow pond on Monday.
According to reports, the body was discovered when a local couple went to the pond to catch fish. They noticed a portion of the body protruding from the mud and immediately alerted other villagers, who later informed the police.
Local residents said the victim’s face was tied with a cloth, raising suspicion that the incident could be a case of murder.
Although the identity of the deceased has not yet been officially confirmed, villagers have expressed concern that the body might be that of Dilip Nath, a married resident of Rongkut Block No. 3 who has reportedly been missing for the past few days.
Police reached the spot and recovered the body, which has been sent to the Diphu Medical College & Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Authorities said an investigation will be carried out to ascertain the identity of the deceased and determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
