VARTALAP regional media workshop held in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR, June 24: The VARTALAP Regional Media Workshop on the theme ‘Viksit Bharat Ka Amrit Kaal: 11 Years of Seva, Sushasan, Garib Kalyan’ was held on Tuesday at NTPC Bongaigaon, Salakati, in Kokrajhar district.

The event was jointly organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Guwahati, and NTPC Bongaigaon, and witnessed the participation of over 50 media professionals from Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).

The workshop commenced with opening remarks by Pavni Gupta, deputy director, PIB Guwahati, who underlined the media’s pivotal role in communicating government initiatives and welfare programmes to the public.

She highlighted the importance of regional media in bridging the information gap and amplifying development narratives.

Lok Sabha MP from Kokrajhar, Joyanta Basumatary, graced the event as Chief Guest.

In his address, he reflected on the nation’s developmental journey over the past 11 years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He emphasised the government’s focus on inclusive governance, poverty alleviation, and transformative public service delivery, reiterating the vision for a Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

Executive Member of BTR, Wilson Hasda, in his inaugural address, spoke about various youth welfare initiatives being implemented by the BTR government.

He stressed the need to empower young people through education, skill development, and active participation in the region’s progress.

Welcoming the attendees, Arnab Maitra, head of project, NTPC Bongaigaon, shared an overview of NTPC’s contributions to regional growth and development.

He outlined the organisation’s commitment to sustainable progress and corporate social responsibility in the local communities.

KM Prashanth, General Manager (Corporate Communications), NTPC, spoke on the strategic role of communication in nation-building and shared insights into NTPC’s public engagement efforts.

Ankur Lahoty, Head of the Regional News Unit, Doordarshan News Assam, delivered a detailed presentation on ‘New Age Prasar Bharati: PB SHABD & Waves OTT’, focusing on the evolution of public broadcasting in the digital era and the emergence of new platforms to engage younger audiences.

A key segment of the event was a panel discussion on “Empowering Amrit Peedhi & Youth Welfare”, where media experts and stakeholders discussed how journalism can play a transformative role in amplifying youth-centric schemes and driving social change.

The workshop was also attended by Dr P L Bharati, in-charge of the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Guwahati, among other dignitaries.

The event concluded with an interactive session, reaffirming the shared commitment of media, public sector entities, and local stakeholders to the vision of a developed and inclusive India.
