Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Divas observed in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG, Aug 14: As instructed by the government of Assam, the district administration of Dima Hasao observed ‘Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas’ or ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ to remember the pain in the memory of the struggles and sacrifices during the partition of country in 1947, on Monday.
District commissioner, Dima Hasao, Simanta Kumar Das, ACS addressing the people during the programme spoke about the significance of the day and said, “The horror partition of the country can never be forgotten and the violence that took place is unimaginable, lakhs of people were displaced and lost their lives because of hatred. Let us all remember them and their struggle on this day. Through this, the present generations are needed to be made aware of the horrors of partition.”
Superintendent of police, Mayank Kumar also attended the programme. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “The Partition Horror Remembrance Day shall keep reminding us of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony and human empowerment. He added that now it is our responsibility to narrate these stories to the upcoming generations so as to ensure that they have information about the struggle and sacrifice of their ancestors. The purpose behind celebrating this day is that people should understand and know that millions of our people had to sacrifice their lives for freedom and our upcoming generation should learn and understand from history so that it doesn’t repeat again”
In the programme, the district commissioner gave a welcome address. A floral tribute and lighting of the earthen lamp was done. A short movie screening on the occasion about the nation partition independence was done as part of the programme. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by ADC Surya Kamal Borah, ACS.
