DIPHU, Dec 18: Voices for implementation of Article 244 (A) on Wednesday reached Delhi as the delegation from Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao staged a sit–in– demonstration at Jantar Mantar seeking the same.
The sit-in-demonstration was organized by the Karbi Anglong Dima Hasao Autonomous State Demand Committee (KADHASDCOM) and its allies such as the Karbi Students Association (KSA), Dimasa Students Union, Karbi Riso Adorbar, Karbi Adorbar, Karbi So-arlo Amei (KARSA), Karbi Unemployed Youth Association and Tiwa Dorbar.
Speaking on the same, president of KADHASDCOM, Ajit Timung said that if the people of Karbi Anglong come together then an autonomous state can be achieved.
He further mentioned that the Karbi political leaders should have the spirit of sacrifice instead of focusing on political gain.
“If Karbi leaders can sacrifice then there is no question that an autonomous state will not be granted,” he added.
Timung said that apart from delegation of Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, members of Karbi Students Union, Chakma Students Union, Tripuri Students Union and other students union from Northeast in Delhi also participated in the demonstration to show their support.
Diphu MP Amarsing Tisso said that former MPs Birensing Engti as well as Horensing Bey, have placed the Assam State Reorganisation (Karbi Dimanchal) private member bill in Parliament, but unfortunately it was not taken up for discussion.
“As requested by leaders of KADHASDCOM to re-introduce the private member bill which is now still in the Home Ministry. From there it will go to the President of India for assent and after that it will be placed in Parliament. I am very hopeful that under this viksit bharat of the BJP government and before 2047, Article 244(A) of the Indian Constitution will get passed,” the MP stated.
