WCCB Guwahati recovers leopard remains; apprehends one

GUWAHATI, March 30: In yet another crackdown against the illegal smuggling of forest resources, Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB), Guwahati in a joint operation with the Nameri Range Office of Assam Forest team seized 4 leopard canines, 12 leopard nails and 109 pieces of leopard bone with a skull on Tuesday last. Additionally, one motorcycle was also seized at Chariduar – Bhalukpung Road near GREF camp, Sonitpur, and one person was detained. The detainee has been identified as Bablu Payeng, 26, from Uttar Dharikati village under Chariduwar Police station.

Later, WCCB handed over the case to the Nameri Range office for further investigation. Notably, the leopard is enlisted in schedule-1 of the Wildlife protection act 1972.
