Tezpur, 20 Oct: As the 2026 Assam Assembly elections approach, speculation is mounting over the future of the BJP’s alliance with the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). Addressing the media at a party function in Tezpur, BJP state president Dilip Saikia offered insights without giving a direct answer, saying, “Some reports have misinterpreted my statements. We cannot be Zubeen, nor can you, but the public seeks justice for Zubeen, and investigations are underway accordingly.”
Saikia emphasised that justice for Zubeen remains a priority for the state, with SIT conducting detailed investigations. “The people of Assam want a thorough probe, and the CBI is also involved. Everyone will see justice done,” he said. He referred to the BJP’s earlier slogan “We are Zubeen too,” stating that media coverage had misunderstood the intent, prompting adjustments in messaging.

On the political front, Saikia made it clear that performance will dictate candidacy for 2026. “Those MLAs and ministers who have not performed well will not receive tickets. BJP defines itself as a party of the people, and we will ensure that every constituency sees development and justice,” he said.
The comments come amid growing political chatter about the stability of the BJP-AGP alliance, signalling that party strategy and candidate selection will be closely tied to performance and public sentiment.
