Women’s Conclave 2025 inspires Nari Shakti for nation building

Gauhati University hosts event focusing on leadership, innovation and empowerment of women for a stronger India

GUWAHATI, Nov 22: The Women’s Conclave 2025 was held on Saturday at the Phanidhar Datta Seminar Hall, Gauhati University under the theme “Vikshit Bharat @2047 – Strengthening Nari Shakti for National Development and Leadership.” The event was organised by the Council for Teacher Education Foundation (CTEF), Assam Chapter, under the Vikshit Bharat Abhiyan of the Government of Assam in collaboration with the Department of Education, Gauhati University, Bharatiya Shikshan Mandal, UAP, and Rashtriya Sevika Samiti, UAP. The programme was powered by Antariksh Information Technology.

The conclave focused on leadership, innovation and nation building, with special emphasis on empowering women to play a central role in national development.

The programme was presided over by Prof Nilima Bhagabati, Chairperson of CTEF, who delivered the welcome address. She highlighted the aims and objectives of the conclave and spoke about the four main pillars of the nation’s Amrit Kal: youth power, women power, farmers and the people. She stressed that a nation can progress only when women are empowered, as they form the backbone of homes and society. Prof Bhagabati also emphasised the importance of promoting women in defence, science, technology, innovation, administration and policy making.

The event was divided into four technical sessions. The first session, chaired by Prof Pranayee Datta, former professor at Gauhati University, focused on women in entrepreneurship, science, technology, and innovation. Dr Swapnali Hazarika, Senior Scientist at CSIR-NEIST Jorhat, spoke about strengthening Nari Shakti through science and technology, highlighting various central government schemes for women and the challenges they face in these fields. Entrepreneur Bhargav Bhagawati discussed women’s participation in the aquaculture industry, ornamental fish farming, pearl farming and modern systems like RAS and biofloc.

The second session, chaired by Prof Padmini Bhuyan, highlighted women in administration, policy making and economic empowerment. Resource persons Krishna Baruah, Former Commissioner of Assam and Indranee Baruah, IPS, Central Western Range, encouraged young women to pursue leadership roles in public service and contribute to national development.

The remaining sessions focused on women in defence and women entrepreneurship. Speakers discussed the increasing role of women in the armed forces and emphasised the need to support women-led businesses to drive economic growth.

Over 100 students from seven colleges and universities, including Gauhati University, Dispur College and B Baruah College, participated in the conclave. Stalls showcasing handmade products provided participants an opportunity to display their skills and creativity.

The Women’s Conclave 2025 was widely appreciated for offering valuable insights into women empowerment and inspiring students and participants to actively contribute to a stronger and more developed nation by supporting and uplifting Nari Shakti.
