World Diabetes Day Observed At Jorhat Medical College And Hospital

JORHAT, Nov 15: The Department of Pharmacology in collaboration with Department of Medicine of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital organised a two-day event on the occasion of World Diabetes Day.

On November 13 a walkathon and public awareness programme were organised at Jorhat Mukti Jujaru Bhawan successfully. The programme was moderated by Dr Sarbeswar Agarwalla, diabetes specialist from Jorhat. The walkathon was flagged off by Ranjita Beria, the power lifting champion who represented Assam in National Power Lifting championship in October, 2022.

The walkathon started from Muktijujaru Bhawan, through JB College, K B road and ended at Muktijujaru Bhawan.
Dr. Balin Kharghoria and Dr. Naruttam Sonowal, senior physicians of Jorhat delivered diabetes awareness lecture and the need of exercise and dietary habits in prevention and management of Diabetes mellitus. About 200 people participated in the walkathon.
Dr PK Siakia, Dr Thaneswar Borah, Dr Jayanta Kalita, Dr Binuj Dutta, Dr Sahid Aziz, Dr Uttam Kumar Nath, Dr Gautam Sahu, Dr Rituparna Phukan Roy, students from Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, Medical representatives, president of Lions club of Jorhat Lion MJF Ankush Jain and secretary Lion Jimmy Modi, Leo Club of Jorhat Heritage advisor Lion Aditya Beria and president Leo Prerna Chaudhary and the general public
participated in the walkathon.

On November 14 the academic programme was inaugurated with lighting of lamp by Professor (Dr) RK Talukdar, principal of Jorhat Medical College and Hospital and Professor (Dr) Purnima Barua, superintendent, Jorhat Medical College and hospital. Doctors from their specialised fields delivered speeches on various aspects of prevention and treatment of Diabetes mellitus. The postgraduate students from different medical college also presented their research paper in this academic event. The two day programme ended with a vote of thanks offered by the organising secretary, Dr Gautam Sahu.
