World Water Day Observed In Hojai

HOJAI, March 23:  The Rastrabhasha Middle School has celebrated the ‘World Water Day, 2024’ in its campus in Hojai by holding a programme, which focused on the theme ‘Water for prosperity and peace’.

A total of 50 students, nine teachers and guests participated in the programme that was held in the school campus on Friday.

The programme was organised jointly by the representative of the school, TERRE, Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi and Small Steps. The celebrations began with lightening of the lamp by forest official, Santosh Sah of Nagaon South forest division and Prodip Kumar Sahoo. The purpose of celebration of the ‘World Water Day’ was stated by the science teacher of the school, Arup Ratan Debnath on the occasion.

Some of the students of the school recited poetry and spoke on the theme of water. This was followed by the speech of Sri Sah that focused on maintain the ecological balance in nature through conservation of forest as well as water resources.

Prodip Kumar Sahoo delivered a lecture on the comprehensive aspects related to the importance, availability of water sources, causes of scarcity of water with special reference to drinking water, its impact on living beings and the need to conserve water. He spoke on the scarcity of water in different parts of the country and how several organisations are working to solve it.

Emphasising on the theme of ‘World Water Day’, Sahoo appealed to everyone to follow different strategies to save water through its judicious use. He also cited the initiatives taken by him to save water by reusing it in day-to-day life. In this connection, he appealed everyone to conserve water through rain-water harvesting. By using rain water for daily activities, people can conserve ground water which is the only main source of drinking water. He concluded his speed by with the song ‘…Ye Prithivi, Ye Dharti, Ye Vasundhara Humaree Hai…Ise Hum Pujenge, Piyar Karenge, Kardenge Ye Haribhari…’
