Guwahati, Oct 21: The Bureau of Indian Standards, in association with NEAID carried out street plays in various locations in the city, followed by press meet to create awareness among consumers on hallmarking of gold jewellery during the ensuing festive season of Dhanteras and Diwali.
During the press meeting at Dispur press club, Sabyasachi Dhar, head of BIS Guwahati informed that the only way for a common consumer to ensure that the jewellery procured is having required purity is by asking for hallmarked jewellery and looking for the three marks viz BIS Standard mark, Purity of Gold and fineness.
Deep Deka, hall marking agent of BIS, Guwahati informed that the six-digit alphanumeric code on the jewelry can be verified through BIS Care App to obtain information on the authenticity of the ornament.
Vijay Gauraw, dy. director of BIS urged the consumers to purchase hall marked jewellery with a proper bill containing details of the articles.
