GUWAHATI, June 21: Topcem Cement, a leading cement manufacturing company of Northeast India announced the launch of 5th edition of its flagship Initiative “Free Cleft Lip and Palate Surgery Camp” on Wednesday. This initiative has been implemented in association with Mission Smile, a Government registered Medical Charitable Trust. A total number of 25 nos. children from Assam will be provided free of cost cleft lip deformities and palate surgery by Topcem Cement at the Mission Smile’s Guwahati Comprehensive Cleft Lip Centre, headquartered at the Mahendra Mohan Choudhury Hospital, Guwahati, under the supervision of competent doctors from June 22 to June 26.

Launching the flagship initiative in Guwahati on Wednesday, Dr Anil Kapur, president, sales & marketing, Meghalaya Cements said “Since 2017, Topcem Cement has provided cleft surgeries to more than 130 children from various locations of Assam and Meghalaya. Out of 130 surgeries, last year we have completed 25 surgeries in Meghalaya and this year 25 will be held at Assam. We are committed towards the betterment of the society and will continue to do such activity in the coming future.”
Apart from the cleft surgeries, Mission Smile will also offer other allied support services to the patients such as comprehensive medical evaluation, reconstructive surgery which includes surgery, medicine, test and nursing. child life counseling, dentistry, speech therapy, nutritional counseling & monitoring to the child patients.
Topcem Cement has persisted in its aim to bring happiness to children across Assam & Meghalaya in its mission to spreading awareness on cleft deformities and supporting free cleft surgeries and comprehensive cleft care for the underprivileged. Topcem in association with Mission Smile since the start of this initiative in 2017 have enabled more than 130 cleft surgeries so far and helped them in bringing smiles to the faces of these children who deserve a healthy and happy smile.
Through this initiative Topcem Cement and Mission Smile are working together to spread awareness about the birth condition that affects one in 700 births in India, but still faces a shocking lack of awareness among much of the population. This initiative also seeks to support families by providing free cleft treatment for children across the country. Mission Smile has a partnership with Assam Government and Meghalaya Government for caring cleft affected children of both the state. Mission Smile has provided more than 20,000 surgeries since last ten years and currently they are delivering 1200+ surgeries annually.
