Police Commemoration Day marked with tributes in Guwahati

GUWAHATI, Oct 21: Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya paid rich tributes to the brave police personnel who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day at a function held at the 4th Assam Police Battalion in Kahilipara on Monday.

It may be noted that the nation observes Police Commemoration Day to honour the courage and sacrifices made by police personnel in defending the nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Acharya said, “Police Commemoration Day is an occasion that gives us an opportunity to honour the valour and supreme sacrifice of our police personnel, who, at the cost of their lives, save us and our motherland.” On this occasion, the Governor remembered the dedicated and courageous police personnel who laid down their lives during various missions. He also said that the dedication and unflinching commitment of the police personnel who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the motherland are a source of inspiration for everyone. He noted that the sacrifices made by the police personnel serve as a poignant reminder for every member of society to learn and contribute positively to the nation.

The Governor also underscored the importance of instilling a sense of patriotism, dedication, and dutifulness in every individual, stating that these qualities are crucial for achieving personal productivity and helping the nation scale new heights of success. He further emphasised that service to the nation is the foremost objective, and safeguarding and protecting it is the highest form of service one can dedicate themselves to in their lifetime.

Chief secretary Dr Ravi Kota and DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh also spoke on the occasion. The Governor also spent time interacting with the men in uniform during the event.

Similarly, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) solemnly observed Police Commemoration Day on Monday. The event was held at the RPF Reserve Lines in Maligaon as a mark of honour toward the bravery, sacrifices, and dedication of RPF personnel across the nation who have laid down their lives in the line of duty. Senior RPF officials, along with staff members from the greater Guwahati area, participated in the event to pay homage to these brave personnel.

The ceremony commenced with a solemn parade by the RPF contingent, followed by a heartfelt tribute to the fallen heroes. It also emphasised the critical role played by the RPF in maintaining public safety and security, particularly in safeguarding the railways, which serve as one of the nation’s lifelines. The ceremony acknowledged the dedication, courage, and invaluable contributions of the railway security wing in ensuring the smooth and secure functioning of railway services.

The concluding remarks of the event called for unity and renewed dedication to the values of justice and service, inspiring all attendees to continue their mission of safeguarding the community with even greater commitment.
