New Delhi, April 8: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released new guidelines for the assessment and evaluation process for the 2024-25 academic session, specifically impacting the annual examinations of classes 11 and 12.
CBSE has implemented considerable changes in the question paper composition for these classes, while the structure for classes 9-10 remains unchanged from the previous academic year.
As per the new guidelines, the portion of select response type questions will stay at 30%. However, there will be a change in Competency-focused questions, which will now make up 50% of the paper, up from the previous 40%. Constructed response questions will now account for 30%, down from 40%.
These changes are in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s focus on Competency Based Education. CBSE has been actively taking steps to align assessments with NEP objectives, including offering resources for teachers and students, and ongoing capacity development for educators.
CBSE stated that the primary aim is to shift from rote learning to a learning approach that focuses on enhancing students’ creative, critical, and system thinking abilities to tackle 21st-century challenges.
