Railway Protection Force cracks down on touts and thieves in NF Railway Zone

GUWAHATI, July 20: In a concerted effort to curb illegal activities within the N.F. Railway zone, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has undertaken a series of rigorous operations targeting touts and thieves.

From July 1 to July 16, 2024, RPF teams conducted extensive checks resulting in significant apprehensions and recoveries.

During this period, the RPF apprehended a total of 9 touts across various locations within the zone. These operations led to the recovery of railway tickets valued at over Rs. 2.21 lakh from the possession of these individuals.

Additionally, the RPF nabbed 10 persons involved in thefts of passenger belongings, recovering twelve mobile phones worth more than Rs. 1.91 lakh.

The drives were carried out in collaboration with the Government Railway Police (GRP) as required, ensuring a coordinated effort to maintain railway security.

A total of 84 railway tickets, amounting to Rs. 2,21,851, were seized during these joint operations.

Highlighting specific incidents, on July 2, the RPF, alongside the CIB team of New Jalpaiguri, conducted a raid at the PRS counter of New Jalpaiguri.

This operation resulted in the seizure of 18 E-Tickets worth approximately Rs. 48,383, and the apprehension of one tout.

A case has been registered under section 143 of the Railways Act at New Jalpaiguri for further legal proceedings.

Similarly, on July 4, a joint operation involving the RPF, CPDS, and GRP of New Jalpaiguri led to the apprehension of two individuals at New Jalpaiguri railway station.

Four stolen mobile phones, valued at around Rs. 1 lakh, were recovered from their possession.

The apprehended persons, along with the recovered items, were handed over to the GRP for further legal action.

In addition to cracking down on illegal ticketing and theft, the RPF of N.F. Railway remains committed to providing assistance and ensuring the security of passengers.

The authorities urge all railway users to travel with valid tickets and remind them that any issues during their journey can be reported by calling the toll-free number 139.
