DIBRUGARH, July 28: In a big blow to insurgents group, 14 National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) laid down their arms before security forces at Longding in Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday.
The concerted efforts, relentless pursuit and human approach of Longding police at the grass-root level under the Operation Mainstream initiative to convince the insurgents to come over ground and join the mainstream has paid dividends as this is the highest simultaneous surrender in history of Tirap, Longding and Changlang (TCL) region of the eastern Arunachal Pradesh.
According to a police source, the surrendered cadres were engaged in extortion and collection of taxes. They were all holding influential positions and had been working actively for the outfit.
Earlier also important insurgent leaders have shunned the insurgent groups and have joined the mainstream giving a blow to the underground outfits.
The outfits revealed about their hard life in the organization and appealed their fellow cadres who are still in the NSCN-IM, KYA, R, U, KK to give up violence and start a new beginning by surrendering before the police and administration as they said they have understood that life of UG apart from being an anti-national act, is wastage of their precious life.
Recently, the local people of Arunachal Pradesh hit the street in protest against the insurgent groups.
