18 injured as bus fell into gorge in Tripura

AGARTALA, Jan 12: A bus accident early Monday morning in Tripura’s Kamalpur area of Dhalai District has left 18 passengers injured, causing alarm among local residents and disrupting the nearby market in Saikabazar.

The bus, en route from Agartala to Kailashahar in Unakoti District, reportedly lost control while navigating a sharp turn and fell into a deep gorge.

Passengers stated that the journey had originally started from Radhanagar Bus Stand in Agartala. After the first bus broke down near Khowai, they switched to another vehicle, which was allegedly traveling at high speed when the accident occurred.

Around 32 to 35 passengers were on board.

Emergency teams, including the Fire and Emergency Services and local officials, promptly reached the scene to assist the victims. Injured passengers were transported to nearby medical facilities: 11 to Kamalpur Sub-Divisional Hospital, five to Dhalai District Hospital, and two to Fatikroy Primary Health Center.

Tripura chief minister Manik Saha expressed concern over the incident, offering his wishes for a speedy recovery.

He confirmed that the administration was fully mobilized to provide immediate medical attention to the injured.

“I have been informed about the bus accident at Saikabazar, Kamalpur. There were 32 passengers onboard. Eleven have been admitted to the sub-divisional hospital, five to Dhalai District Hospital, and two to Fatikroy Primary Health Center. I wish all the injured a swift recovery. The administration is actively managing the situation,” the chief minister stated.
