DIMAPUR, Nov 2: Two women were arrested by Dimapur police for defrauding several people in the name of giving out loans after securing some security amount from them for the same.
Dimapur police PRO and deputy commissioner of police (crime), in a release, on Saturday said the duo – Sungty Tungoe @ Awala and Chipeno Murry – were summoned for enquiry and to ascertain the facts following reports on various social media and local news channels about the fraudulent case.
The release said it was admitted by the two during the course of enquiry that they had given out loans to several individuals in lieu of a certain security amount and had executed deed of agreement on government stamp papers in the name of four unregistered societies – Limuqho Society, Royal Society, Niquomi Society and Rural Society – which did not exist.
On further enquiry, the police ascertained that they had fraudulently executed the deed of agreement and several victims were yet to receive the loan amount after depositing the security amount.
A case has been registered and the two arrested are under police custody for further investigation, the release added.
The Dimapur police appealed to the victim(s) of the scam to come forward and report at West police station, Dimapur.
