3 militants arrested in Manipur

IMPHAL, April 11: Three militants belonging to different proscribed outfits have been arrested in Manipur’s Imphal East district, police said on Friday.

The arrests were made in different police station areas in the district on Thursday.

A militant of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (SOREPA), identified as Oinam Rabichandra Singh (33), was nabbed in Sawombung area.

An insurgent of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) was arrested from Ngariyan Yairipok Road in Andro police station area. He was allegedly involved in extortion and transportation of arms and ammunition, a police officer said.

Also, a militant of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG), identified as Md Israk Khan, was nabbed from Kairang village.

Arms and ammunition were also seized during search operations in Imphal East and Churachandpur districts.

A 9mm SMG with three magazines, a double-barrel gun, a .32 pistol loaded with three cartridges in the magazine, four hand grenades, 10 detonators, two MK12T explosives, a radio set and a vehicular set microphone were seized in Pukhao Ahallup area in Imphal East district on Thursday, the officer said.

A .22 rifle with an empty magazine, a single-barrel gun and two country-made mortars (Pompi) were seized from Siden Bowel area in Churachandpur district on Thursday.

Security forces also dismantled two bunkers near the foothills of Chandrakhong in Thoubal district on Wednesday. (PTI)
