GUWAHATI, Oct 13: The Army Service Corps motorcycle display team ‘Tornadoes’ reached Leimakhong on day 12 of their motorcycle expedition of north-eastern states. The bold motorcycle expedition undertaken by ‘Tornadoes’ will be covering 2600 km through the challenging terrain of north-eastern states of India to pay homage to the brave hearts who valiantly fought various wars and gave supreme sacrifice of their lives.
The ASC ‘Tornadoes’ , consisting of one officer, two JCOS and sixteen other ranks led by Captain AS Grewal are undertaking this adventurous expedition to commemorate ASC’s 11th Reunion and 262nd Corps Day on December 8, 2022. These daredevils embarked upon this adventure on October 1 from Tezpur.
After paying homage to the brave hearts of 1971 War at Leimakhong War Memorial, the expedition was flagged off by GOC Red Shield Division for their next destination, Kohima where they will pay homage to Captain Kenguruse, MVC at his native village Nerhema. An ASC officer, Captain Kenguruse was attached with 2 Rajputana Rifles during Kargil Operations. As the Ghatak platoon commander, the brave heart was tasked to evict Pakistani intruders holding a machine gun post at Black Rock in Drass Sector. Without caring for his personal safety, Captain Kenguruse climbed barefoot, reached the top and killed 2 infiltrators with his rifle and other 2 enemies in a hand-to-hand combat despite being shot in his abdomen. Owing to his unflinching bravery, Captain Kenguruse was awarded the Mahavir Chakra, the 2nd highest award for act of bravery in the face of an enemy.
Neiselie and Dinuo Kenguruse, the parents of Captain Kenguruse, along with his brother Atoulie Kenguruse were present at the Kenguruse War Memorial where the ASC Tornadoes team met and felicitated the family, stated a press release.
