AGARTALA, Nov 2: Former Tripura minister and Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman alleged on Saturday that since the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumed power at the center and in Tripura, there has been a surge in fundamentalist forces fueling hatred and creating a tense environment.
Leading a “Sanhati Padyatra” (solidarity march) in Agartala, Roy Barman explained that the All India Congress Committee has decided to organize these marches from October 31, the anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination, until November 19, her birth anniversary.
“The primary objective is to spread a message of love, peace, and harmony across the nation,” he told reporters. “Since the BJP’s rise to power at both the state and central levels, there has been an increase in forces attempting to spread hatred and destabilize the social atmosphere. We stand by a philosophy of unity and compassion, as our leaders have consistently promoted a message of love. This is to prevent bloodshed and frustrate divisive attempts cloaked under cultural and political narratives.”
Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Asish Kumar Saha also criticized the BJP-led government, condemning its approach as one that fosters division and unrest. “They have divided communities by spreading hatred in the name of Hindutva and pitting religions against each other. In response, the Congress has launched this Padyatra to foster love, unity, and peace,” he added.
