IMPHAL, Feb 11 (NNN): A labourer of the BRTF engaged in the border fencing work along the Manipur sector of Indo-Myanmar border was severely injured in a bomb blast on Friday.
The blast which police suspected to be a landmine occurred at a place between Indo-Myanmar border pillar numbers 80 and 81 near Kwatha Khunou of Tengnoupal district where border fencing works are going on today around 9.20am.
The injured labourer was identified as Jerom Birla (36) from Simdega district of Jharkhand. He is a labourer of 82 RCC of BRTF stationed at B Bongjang village.
With critical injuries on his left leg and other parts of the body, the labourer was immediately evacuated to Moreh hospital. He was later shifted to a hospital in Imphal, an official source said.

Border fencing work at the Moreh sector of Indo-Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district is going on even as it was said to be stalled because of disputes regarding the alignment of boundary pillars.
The blast occurred barely a day after Manav Prasad, chief engineer of Project Sewak and Atul Kumar, commander BRTF had a meeting with Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Thursday at the latter’s office.
The meeting discussed the progress of the ongoing construction of roadways and the fencing work at the Indo-Myanmar border.
