The victim, Ruvi Hussain, was abducted by armed assailants on Thursday while transporting cattle near Danangre Songma. His son, Rasik Hussain, immediately filed a First Information Report (FIR) at Damal Asim Police Station in West Garo Hills district, reporting that unknown individuals armed with firearms and daggers had kidnapped his father.

Acting swiftly on the complaint, Meghalaya police launched a rescue operation, leading to an encounter with the kidnappers. During the gunfight, two of the abductors sustained injuries. One of them, identified as Raksan Marak, succumbed to his wounds while being transported to the hospital. The second kidnapper, Chingsan Marak, was apprehended and is currently in Meghalaya police custody.

Following the encounter, police recovered a country-made shotgun, a knife, and other incriminating evidence from the scene. Authorities have intensified their investigation to determine whether the arrested suspect has links to any larger criminal networks operating in the region.

The incident highlights the growing security concerns in parts of Meghalaya, particularly regarding criminal activities such as kidnappings for ransom. The police have assured the public that they remain committed to maintaining law and order and taking stringent action against those involved in such crimes.
