Five Held With Huge Quantities Of Opium, Drugs In Manipur

IMPHAL, April 10 (NNN): Police in Manipur have arrested five persons including a woman with huge quantities of opium and other illegal drugs in separate operations in the last 24 hours. One of the persons was arrested by a team of police commandos on frisking and checking duty along NH-2 at Motbung under Sapermaina police station of Kangpokpi district on Friday night, according to police. The police arrested the man after a huge quantity of opium and brown sugar valued around Rs 2.50 crore in the international market was recovered from the vehicle he was driving. The arrested person was identified as Paominlen of Tengnoupal district, according to police.

A police source said that the police commandos detected the opium and drugs in the vehicle he came with. The arrested person has been handed over to Sapermaina police station along with the recovered items, police further said.

In another operation, police in Churachandpur district recovered 6.285 kg of opium during a check to a Bolero at Boljang village of the district on Friday evening, around 5 pm. The police further recovered Rs 2.6 lakh in cash suspected to be sale proceeds of opium from their possessions.Police arrested two persons including a woman in this connection. The woman was identified as Hoikim and the other person has been identified as Seikhohao. Both of them are from Churachandpur district, according to police. Further operation based on the disclosure made by them led to the recovery of more quantities of opium with a cash amount of Rs 5 lakh from the house of the woman.

In yet another incident, a team of Narcotic Cell of Imphal East district police arrested two youths along with 12 gm of heroin powder on Friday night, around 8.30 pm from Imphal East district. The arrested persons have been identified as Serto David of Senapati district and VS Chuimui from Kamjong district, according to police.
